SM Takes Legal Action Against Vandalism Targeting BoA: "No Leniency"

Graffiti attacks reported near Gangnam Station, fans help restore the scene

SM Entertainment is taking strong legal action after a series of defamatory graffiti incidents targeting BoA surfaced online. The company reported the vandalism to police and is preparing to file a formal complaint.

🚨 BoA Targeted by Defamatory Graffiti

On June 11, SM Entertainment issued a public statement:

"We have confirmed multiple cases of offensive graffiti targeting BoA through fan reports and internal monitoring." The company explained that they had visited Gangnam Station, where most incidents were concentrated, and filed an official police report.

🛑 "This Is a Crime, Not a Joke" — SM Responds Firmly

SM emphasized that the graffiti acts constitute criminal defamation.

"We will respond strictly, with zero leniency in accordance with the law," the agency warned. They added that a formal lawsuit will also be filed today.

👥 BoA Fans Step In First

Fans were the first to take action. They voluntarily reported the incidents to SM and cleaned the vandalized areas around media poles, LED billboards, and bus stops near Gangnam Station.

Photos of restored public spaces were shared with captions like:

"We hope BoA never sees this. We've cleaned it for her."

⚖️ Graffiti = Criminal Offense Under Korean Law

Under Korean law (Criminal Act Article 141), defacing public facilities such as bus stops or utility boxes qualifies as damage to public property, even if no functional harm is caused.

The offense is punishable by up to 7 years in prison or a fine of up to ₩10 million KRW (~$7,200 USD).

In cases of false information or slander, perpetrators may also be charged under defamation laws, facing up to 5 years in prison or ₩10 million KRW in fines.

SM added that they are also monitoring and pursuing legal action against online rumors and malicious posts targeting BoA.
