Actress Hwang Jung-eum has officially repaid the entire ₩4.3 billion KRW (approximately $3.1 million USD) she was accused of embezzling from her family-owned company.

On June 17, Y.ONE Entertainment confirmed, "Hwang Jung-eum has repaid all funds she used in the form of provisional payments from Hunminjeongeum Entertainment."
The repayment was made in two separate installments on May 30 and June 5, using her personal assets, the agency added.
🧾 Acknowledging Her Mistakes
"As the sole owner of a one-person corporation, she lacked proper tax and accounting knowledge," the company stated. "She is reflecting deeply on her actions."
📉 The Case Explained
Back in early 2022, Hwang received ₩700 million in corporate funds labeled as provisional payments and invested the amount in cryptocurrency.
In total, she misused around ₩4.34 billion, with ₩4.2 billion specifically funneled into coin investments.
⚖️ Legal Proceedings and Apology
Hwang was recently investigated under Korea's Special Act on Economic Crimes. Through her legal representative, she admitted to the charges and asked for leniency.
In her official apology, she said, "I had a sincere desire to grow the company. In 2021, a close acquaintance encouraged me to invest in cryptocurrency using company funds."
