NewJeans' efforts to break free from agency restrictions have hit another wall. The Seoul High Court has rejected their appeal, maintaining the current ban on solo activities.
⚖️ Court Upholds Ban on Independent Promotions
On June 17, the Seoul High Court dismissed NewJeans' appeal regarding a previous injunction. The group had sought to overturn a lower court's decision that banned them from signing individual contracts or promoting independently without agency ADOR's approval.
🚫 ADOR's Injunction Request Fully Accepted
Back in January, ADOR filed for an injunction to prevent NewJeans from engaging in unauthorized advertisements and solo deals. The court sided entirely with ADOR in March. NewJeans later contested the decision, but the court reaffirmed its stance, citing that "the grounds and evidence presented were insufficient to overturn the original ruling."
💸 10 Billion KRW Penalty Per Violation
As part of a separate decision last month, the court also granted ADOR's indirect compulsory execution request. This means that if any NewJeans member violates the ban, they must pay ₩10 billion (approx. $7.2 million) per breach.
📝 Main Contract Lawsuit Still Ongoing
The core lawsuit—ADOR's request to confirm the validity of NewJeans' exclusive contract—is still under review. The third hearing is scheduled for July 24 at 4 PM.
