Rookie shaman meets cursed teen in a love story full of ghosts, twists, and teenage angst
🧿 Fated to Love… or Die Trying
Choo Young-woo and Jo Yi-hyun are teaming up again for a fantasy teen romance with a supernatural twist. tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl kicks off on June 23, promising a heart-racing tale about love, curses, and ghost-fighting teens.
The show follows Gyeon-woo (Choo Young-woo), a high school boy born with a deadly fate, and Seong-ah (Jo Yi-hyun), a Gen Z shaman-in-training who tries to save him—while falling in love along the way.
👻 Not Your Average First Love Story
Unlike typical high school romances, The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl adds eerie tension with an original antagonist not found in the webtoon. Director Kim Yong-wan shared, "Most first love dramas are all about sweetness, but this one is about survival—and it's thrilling to watch Seong-ah fight to protect Gyeon-woo."
Choo plays a boy weighed down by bad luck and deadly destiny, who chooses to isolate himself to protect others. But beneath his cold exterior lies a warm-hearted soul. "Choo Young-woo just felt like the perfect manhwa lead," the director praised.
Jo Yi-hyun plays Seong-ah, a high schooler by day and shaman by night. Drawn to Gyeon-woo at first sight, she becomes his 'human talisman,' fighting off spirits to save him. "I've always been into shamanism and fate," Jo shared. "I studied rituals and dialects for three months to get the role right."
🌟 Strong Supporting Cast + Supernatural Twists
The cast also includes Cha Kang-yoon as Ji-ho, Seong-ah's loyal (but skeptical) bestie, and Choo Ja-hyun as Yeomhwa, an original character invented to stir up trouble between the leads.
Expect a colorful lineup of ghostly foes—from water spirits to baby ghosts, even a haunted dog. Director Kim assured, "We aimed for cute and spooky vibes, nothing too terrifying. You'll get goosebumps and butterflies at the same time."
💗 More Than Just Romance
Behind the supernatural and first-love narrative, the drama also explores friendship, heartbreak, and emotional healing. "Every kind of love is in this drama," said Jo Yi-hyun. "It's not just about romance—it's about love in all its forms."
📺 The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl premieres June 23 at 8:50 PM KST on tvN. Don't miss the shamanic showdown of the summer!
