Lee Byung-hun Appears Solo on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'—Wows with Fluent English and Sharp Humor

Actor Lee Byung-hun made a solo guest appearance on NBC's popular late-night program, 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' impressing audiences with his fluent English and smooth sense of humor.

On June 18, the show released a preview clip via its official YouTube channel ahead of Lee's full appearance. He was invited in anticipation of the upcoming launch of 'Squid Game' Season 3 on Netflix. Notably, Lee carried out the entire interview without an interpreter, drawing attention for his confidence and ease.

Lee began by thanking fans for the global success of Squid Game, saying,
"It's a project created by Korean directors and actors in the Korean language. When I first came to LA and New York to promote it, I was shocked by the response from fans. I felt thankful and proud."

When asked about his first reaction upon reading the Squid Game script, Lee shared:
"I found it incredibly intriguing and unique in structure. But at the same time, I thought it was very experimental—like it would either be a huge success or a complete failure."

His poised and humorous responses earned him applause and praise from both Jimmy Fallon and the audience.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lee Byung-hun opened up about his role as the mysterious Front Man in Squid Game. In Season 1, the character's identity remains hidden until the very end—a detail Jimmy Fallon highlighted as he brought out the Front Man's mask during the interview.

Lee revealed that he kept his role a complete secret, even from those closest to him:
"I didn't tell anyone—not even my friends or my mother."

He shared a memorable story involving his mom:
"One day, my mom called and yelled at me, saying, 'How could you not tell me about this?' I felt really sorry."

Lee also talked about the challenges of acting while wearing the iconic mask:
"The vision is extremely limited. Even going up and down stairs was difficult. I had to act like a ninja—relying entirely on my senses."

His candid and humorous storytelling gave fans a rare glimpse into what it was like to bring one of Squid Game's most enigmatic characters to life.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lee Byung-hun opened up about how his 10-year-old son reacted to his role as the Front Man in Squid Game.
"One day, my son looked really sad and said, 'Dad, why did you do such bad things? You killed so many people.'" Lee shared, drawing laughter from the audience. He is a father of two—a 10-year-old son and an 18-month-old daughter.

The show also featured a fun Squid Game-themed O/X quiz segment, referencing the red and blue buttons from the series. Jimmy Fallon asked Lee a few spoiler-related questions, and Lee answered using the buttons.

To the question, "Will more participants learn the Front Man's identity in Season 3?", Lee pressed 'O' (Yes).

When asked whether there might be a Front Man spinoff series, he also pressed 'O', adding:
"It's not confirmed, but there's definitely a possibility. Nobody knows what could happen next."

When asked whether the Front Man will participate in the game again, or if there's someone even higher in command behind the scenes, Lee cheekily pressed both the 'O' and 'X' buttons at the same time—teasing fans while avoiding spoilers.

The Tonight Show aired on June 18 at 11:35 PM EST in the U.S., while Squid Game Season 3 is set to premiere on Netflix on June 27.
