'Boys' Generation' Season 2 Confirmed—Director Lee Myung-woo Says, "We're Headed to a Fishing High School"

The nostalgic youth drama is coming back with a fresh twist—this time, set by the sea.

🎬 New Season, New Setting

Coupang Play has officially confirmed production for Season 2 of its hit original series Boys' Generation. Following its massive success with the story of misfits at a rural agricultural high school in Chungcheong Province, the new season will shift its setting to a seaside fisheries high school.

Director Lee Myung-woo expressed his excitement: "Thanks to the overwhelming love from viewers for Season 1, we're able to continue telling the story of Boys' Generation," he said. "This time, it will unfold in a whole new backdrop—a coastal fisheries high school—with more colorful and layered characters."

He added, "Expect something that's both familiar and refreshing, comedic yet heartfelt, as we capture another unforgettable chapter of youth."

📺 Season 1 Was a Hit

Originally released in 2023, Boys' Generation followed the misadventures of a nerdy high schooler named Byeong-tae who unexpectedly becomes the local legend in Onyang, South Chungcheong Province, in 1989.

The drama captivated audiences with its witty use of regional dialects—especially phrases like "Iii~" and "Gaboneunggyeo"—and its memorable characters. Lead actor Im Si-wan earned major praise for his performance.

🏆 Award-Winning Popularity

Season 1 became the most-watched Coupang Play series of the year, racking up seven major awards across 2024. It won big at:

  • The 3rd Blue Dragon Series Awards
  • 2024 Asia Contents & Global OTT Awards
  • The 15th Korea Drama Awards
  • 2024 Content Asia Awards, and more

🎥 Coming Soon

Season 2 is set to begin filming in the first half of next year. The official release date will be announced later. Meanwhile, Boys' Generation Season 1 remains free to watch on Coupang Play for both Wow members and general users.
