Karina of aespa is setting the record straight after a recent photo sparked political speculation online.
🗣️ "I Should've Been More Aware"
On July 6, Karina appeared on the YouTube show Fairy Jaehyung hosted by musician Jung Jae-hyung. The episode, titled "You're Finally Here, Our Youngest Guest Yet," featured Karina opening up about her career, variety show appearances, and a recent controversy.
During the show, Karina addressed the political misunderstanding that arose earlier this year when she posted a photo wearing a red jacket with the number "2" on it — a combination that coincided with symbols associated with a particular political party during Korea's presidential election.
💬 "No Political Intent Whatsoever"
"Honestly, it was cold, and I was out with my staff," Karina explained. "I bought the jacket because of the weather and uploaded the photo to communicate with fans. I had no political intent at all."
After backlash grew online, her agency asked her to delete the post. "I realized I was ignorant about the timing and context," she said. "Even if I was overseas, I should have known better."
🙏 Apology to Fans
Karina emphasized that her fans' concern made her reflect. "I'm really sorry for causing worry," she said. "I had no idea it would be taken that way, but I want to say I deeply regret it."
She added, "It was something I posted, so I have to take responsibility. But it hurt more when my fellow members were affected too."
Host Jung Jae-hyung reassured her, saying, "I think your fans will understand now that you've spoken honestly about it."
