Netflix submits 'GOLDEN' from 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' for Best Original Song at the Oscars
✨ Golden Track, Golden Opportunity
Netflix has officially submitted "GOLDEN," the main OST from K-Pop Demon Hunters, for consideration in the Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards. Billboard reported on July 8 that the company released the song as a single on July 4 to kick off its Oscar campaign.
The track was co-composed by Kim Eun-jae, Mark Sonnenblick, iideo, 24, and TEDDY. If nominated, they would become the first Korean-descended composers to earn a nomination in the category.
🎧 Making Animated OST History
Billboard noted that GOLDEN could become only the second animated feature track to land a Best Original Song nomination. The last time it happened was in 2022 with Disney's Encanto and its hit "Dos Oruguitas."
Even the Oscars themselves seem hyped—on June 30, the official Academy Awards social media shared a snippet of the "GOLDEN" video with the cheeky caption,
"Huntresses didn't just save the world. They saved my Spotify too."
🔥 Charting Big for K-pop Girl Groups
Since its release, "GOLDEN" has been making waves. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and hit No. 3 on Spotify U.S. Daily Top Songs, marking the highest placement ever for a K-pop girl group track.
The K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack isn't a one-hit wonder either. Several other tracks from the OST also entered the Billboard Hot 100:
- "How It's Done" – No. 42
- "Soda Pop" – No. 49
- "What It Sounds Like" – No. 55
- "Free" – No. 58
- "Takedown" – No. 64
With growing international hype and a killer soundtrack, K-Pop Demon Hunters could make awards season history.
