Shim Eun-kyung is heading to Switzerland! Her latest Japanese film Days at the Beach (여행과 나날) has officially been invited to compete at the 78th Locarno International Film Festival.
🎥 Philosophical but grounded—Locarno jury praises the film
Distributor AtNine Film announced on July 10 that director Sho Miyake's new film Days at the Beach has been selected for Locarno's International Competition section.
The selection committee described the film as:
"Philosophical without pretense, dreamy yet grounded in reality. It quietly contemplates what life is and why we choose the paths we do—delivering a deep portrayal of human nature."
🎬 A deeply personal journey
Director Sho Miyake shared,
"This is the first international film festival I've ever attended. Locarno is a place that breathes true respect for cinema. I'm thrilled and honored."
Lead actress Shim Eun-kyung added,
"It was an honor to be part of Sho Miyake's cinematic world. I'm excited and moved to present this film on such a meaningful stage."
📚 Based on a beloved manga
Days at the Beach is adapted from a manga by Tsuge Yoshiharu, following a screenwriter whose life begins to change after a snowy journey leads her to a chance encounter with a guesthouse owner.
Shim Eun-kyung plays the role of the screenwriter, while Shinichi Tsutsumi co-stars as Benzo, the innkeeper. Shim reportedly joined the film after being deeply touched by the script.
🎬 The film is set to hit Korean theaters this winter.
