The hit crime film Opposition is making a comeback with a bold new perspective.
🎬 Director Hwang Byung-kook's Opposition: Extended Cut is set to hit theaters on August 6. Originally released on April 16, the film drew in over 3.37 million moviegoers, becoming the top-grossing R-rated Korean film since the COVID-19 pandemic—and the biggest box office success among Korean films this year.
The extended edition aims to repay that overwhelming support with a fresh take. This time, the story shifts from the perspective of prosecutor Lee Kang-soo (played by Kang Ha-neul) to Goo Kwan-hee (played by Yoo Hae-jin).
🎥 Director Hwang shared, "The new cut follows Goo Kwan-hee's point of view. I wanted to highlight the themes of ambition and downfall even more clearly. We've added about 15 minutes of new footage, including an alternate opening and expanded character narratives."
A newly released poster centers on Yoo Hae-jin, with Kang Ha-neul and Park Hae-joon (as Oh Sang-jae) looking in opposite directions—hinting at the refined web of relationships and the shift in narrative focus.
Opposition is a gripping crime-action film that follows a prosecutor who uses Korea's underground drug trade to climb the ranks, a mysterious broker known as "Opposition" who disrupts investigations, and a detective who will stop at nothing to take them down. Each pursues a different goal, setting the stage for an explosive showdown.
💥 The film has earned high praise for its electrifying performances, socially resonant themes, and fast-paced, satisfying plot. The extended version promises even deeper storytelling and intensified drama.
