WAKEONE has issued an official apology regarding the controversy surrounding their trainees' participation in Boys Planet 2.
📢 On July 21, the agency posted a statement titled "Notice from WAKEONE" on its official website. The statement addressed the confusion over Kim Gun-woo and Kang Woo-jin being introduced on the show as individual trainees, despite being affiliated with the company.
"Kim Gun-woo had applied and gone through auditions for the program before signing with WAKEONE," the agency explained. "Due to scheduling conflicts, it was difficult for him to participate as part of our official trainee team, so we mutually agreed that he would appear on the show as an individual."
Regarding Kang Woo-jin, they stated, "He was training under WAKEONE with the goal of becoming a singer-songwriter. He has not received professional idol training."
🎙 The agency added that both decisions were made based on "each trainee's personality and artistic direction." However, they sincerely apologized for the confusion and concern caused to the show's producers, viewers, and fans.
WAKEONE took full responsibility, stating, "We believe both trainees deserve respect for their courage and effort. We've agreed to terminate their trainee contracts after mutual discussions."
Addressing recent rumors and backlash aimed at Kim Gun-woo, WAKEONE admitted to failing in their duty to protect their artist and promised to pursue legal action against false claims.
💬 "We apologize once again for the disappointment and concern this situation has caused. We'll take greater care and act with more responsibility to rebuild trust," the statement concluded.
Kim Gun-woo and Kang Woo-jin appeared as contestants on Boys Planet 2, which premiered on July 17. Kim Gun-woo gained attention as the K-Group center, while Kang Woo-jin impressed with his vocal performance.
