Kim Geon-woo, a contestant on Mnet's audition show Boys 2 Planet (a.k.a. BOYS 2 PLANET), has apologized following allegations of past misconduct.
On July 21, Kim Geon-woo posted a handwritten apology on WakeOne's official Instagram. "I'm deeply sorry for causing disappointment and concern due to this controversy," he began.
🎤 What Sparked the Controversy?
A former trainee (referred to as A) accused Kim Geon-woo of verbally abusing fellow trainees during his time at B Entertainment two years ago. A claimed the trauma led to psychiatric treatment and publicly questioned Kim's character.
📄 Kim's Response
Kim acknowledged his faults, saying:
"I sincerely apologize for the hurtful things I said. No matter the reason, I take full responsibility."
He continued, "As the team leader back then, I was under pressure to do well and ended up being immature and harsh toward others."
However, he clarified that not all the accusations were true:
"There are parts of the story that have been distorted. Still, rather than disputing every detail, I chose to focus on sincerely apologizing for what I did wrong."
🧾 Contract Controversy Adds Fuel to the Fire
Though Kim participated in BOYS 2 PLANET as an "individual trainee," WakeOne later confirmed that both Kim Geon-woo and fellow contestant Kang Woo-jin were under contract with the agency — contradicting earlier claims.
"Kim began preparing for BOYS 2 PLANET before officially joining WakeOne," the company explained. "Due to scheduling conflicts, he joined the show solo instead of as part of a team with other WakeOne trainees."
In light of the situation, WakeOne announced the termination of its trainee contracts with both Kim Geon-woo and Kang Woo-jin. Still, they emphasized:
"We'll take firm legal action against any false claims, and we regret not fulfilling our responsibility to protect our trainees."
📺 BOYS 2 PLANET premiered on July 17 and features two teams — K Group and C Group — competing for debut.
