🎬 HYBE America Teams Up with Paramount for K-pop Movie
HYBE America is diving into the world of film production. On July 23, the company announced its collaboration with Paramount Pictures to produce a K-pop-themed feature film.
The film centers on the journey of a Korean-American teenage girl who defies her family's wishes and enters a TV audition program to pursue her dream of joining a next-gen K-pop girl group.
🎭 Rising Stars Take the Lead
Yoo Ji-young, an actress and voice artist, has been cast in the lead role. She previously voiced the character Joy in the upcoming Netflix film K-Pop: Demon Hunters.
Eric Nam, the beloved K-pop singer and actor, will also appear in the film. He made his U.S. film debut last year in Transplant, playing surgical resident Jonah Yoon.
The film's official title has yet to be revealed, but production is set to begin in September 2025, with filming to take place entirely in Korea.
🎥 Benson Lee to Direct, HYBE's James Shin to Produce
Award-winning Korean-American director Benson Lee (known for Miss Monday, a Sundance winner) will helm the project. The screenplay is written by Eileen Shim.
Production is led by James Shin, Head of Film at HYBE America, and Scooter Braun, former CEO of HYBE America. Paramount Pictures will oversee global distribution and production.
Benson Lee shared his vision:
"This film is my love letter to K-pop — full of energy, passion, magic, and the incredible community that supports it."
🌏 Global Story, Universal Message
James Shin added:
"We're thrilled to team up with Paramount to bring a K-pop story to global audiences."
He emphasized the deeper message behind the movie:
"It's not just about the popularity and artistry of K-pop—it's a universal story about chasing your dreams, no matter the odds."
The film is slated for a theatrical release on February 12, 2027.
