Actor-turned-producer Kim Nam-gil brings heartfelt K-content to North America's top genre film fest.
🎬 A Genre-Bending Short With Global Resonance
Kim Nam-gil is stepping behind the camera — not as an actor, but as a producer. His short film How to Open a Door has been officially invited to the 29th Fantasia International Film Festival, one of the largest genre film festivals in North America.
The Fantasia Film Festival, founded in 1996, is renowned for celebrating bold, imaginative works in horror, thriller, and fantasy genres.
Festival organizers praised the film, stating: "It transforms a powerful social message into striking fantasy imagery." The invitation came through a unanimous vote by the festival's programmers.
🗝️ Fantasy Meets Reality in a Tale of Youth and Loss
How to Open a Door follows a young man on the brink of independence, whose world is suddenly shaken when he loses his home. What follows is a surreal and emotional journey to reclaim it — all told through a fantasy lens.
The film delicately reflects on themes of youth, housing insecurity, and psychological resilience, resonating with a generation facing real-world instability.
🧑💼 Kim Nam-gil, Actor to Producer
Kim Nam-gil took on dual roles as executive producer and actor, with his own company Gil Story ENT handling production. Directors Park Ji-wan and Heo Ji-ye co-wrote and co-directed the film.
In a statement, Kim shared, "'How to Open a Door' carries a message that resonates globally. I'm proud to help amplify the value of K-content on an international stage."
📅 Festival Premiere Date
How to Open a Door will have its international premiere on August 1 (KST) at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
