Taiwanese authorities have arrested a group of scalpers who illegally profited from reselling G-Dragon concert tickets at exorbitant prices, using fake IDs and luxury hotel meetups to facilitate the scheme.
🚨 G-Dragon's 'Übermensch' Tour Targeted by Ticket Scam
According to Taiwan's Central News Agency on July 22, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested 42-year-old Liu and three accomplices for reselling tickets to G-Dragon's Übermensch world tour in Taiwan at 6 to 12 times the original price.
💼 Organized Operation With VIP-Like Service
Unlike typical scalpers, Liu's group offered added perks: guaranteed entry, in-person handoffs at high-end hotels near the venue, and even verified real-name authentication—using fake ID cards.
To pull this off, they edited photos of ID cards submitted by buyers and created counterfeit versions specifically for the real-name verification process.
💻 Digital Trail Leads to Arrests
A special task force tracked down digital evidence from online listings and confirmed the suspects' identities. Authorities discovered they had acquired around 3,000 reservation numbers for concert tickets, including over 1,500 for G-Dragon and others for BLACKPINK's upcoming shows.
💰 Estimated Illegal Profits: ₩940 Million
Liu reportedly paid a Hong Kong engineer 2,000–3,000 TWD (approx. ₩94,000) per ticket and resold them with 6–12x markups. The estimated total revenue from the scam reached 20 million TWD (approx. ₩940 million KRW).
📜 Legal Consequences Looming
Liu and his accomplices were referred to prosecutors for violating Taiwan's Cultural and Creative Industries Development Act. Authorities warned that scalping can result in fines of 10 to 50 times the ticket price.
Using forged IDs for real-name entry verification is also a criminal offense in Taiwan, punishable by up to five years in prison or fines up to 500,000 TWD (approx. ₩23 million KRW).
🎤 G-Dragon's World Tour Continues
Despite the controversy, G-Dragon will continue his Übermensch tour, with the next stop set for Jakarta on July 25.
