"There will be no leniency or settlement," says Management SOOP.
🧑⚖️ Woman Receives Suspended Prison Sentence for Defaming Gong Yoo
A 48-year-old woman who repeatedly defamed actor Gong Yoo has been sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years, by the Daejeon District Court (Judge Jang Won-ji, Criminal Division 5).
According to the verdict, the woman, referred to as A, left false comments during Gong Yoo's livestream in January 2020, claiming she was "harassed and monitored." Between then and March 2021, she posted 235 defamatory posts targeting the actor online.
⚖️ Management SOOP: "No More Tolerance"
Gong Yoo's agency Management SOOP issued a statement on July 29 via SNS:
"The defendant has been habitually spreading false information and malicious comments about Gong Yoo since 2020. The court has recognized the severity and malice of the crime."
They emphasized that they will continue strict legal action:
"We will maintain real-time monitoring of all our artists. Any future defamatory posts will be met with firm and consistent legal responses."
🚫 Zero Tolerance for Malicious Behavior
The agency concluded:
"We will not offer leniency or seek settlements—ongoing and future cases will be handled with zero tolerance."
📌 Why This Matters
The ruling sets a precedent in holding malicious commenters accountable, especially in the digital space where public figures are frequent targets of cyberbullying.
