Lee Bo-young Returns in a Dark Medical Thriller
Acclaimed actress Lee Bo-young has taken on another bold challenge in the genre drama space. With her intense performance, she's already gaining attention.
MBC-TV's new Friday–Saturday drama "Mary Kills People" (written by Lee Soo-ah, directed by Park Joon-woo) premiered on August 1, drawing a nationwide viewership rating of 3.2%, according to Nielsen Korea.
A Controversial and Shocking First Episode
The debut episode introduces Woo So-jung (played by Lee Bo-young), an ER doctor at Bunsung General Hospital, and Choi Dae-hyun (played by Kang Ki-young), a former plastic surgeon. Together, they assist terminal patients who choose death over suffering.
The opening scene was already controversial: the pair help national soccer hero Choi Kang-yoon (played by Lee Sang-yoon) die, but when he briefly regains consciousness, they smother him with a pillow. They also advise Jo Hyun-woo (Lee Min-ki), a late-stage cancer patient, on assisted death.
Police Closing In
Meanwhile, the police begin closing in. The episode ends with a case board showing both Woo So-jung and Choi Dae-hyun labeled as "suspects in a serial drug-assisted murder case," setting the stage for a gripping investigation.
