Girls' Generation star takes on her first-ever role as both a lawyer and a die-hard fan
🎬 Choi Soo-young joins cast of Genie TV's original drama 'Idol I'
Singer and actress Choi Soo-young is set to star in Genie TV's upcoming original drama Idol I (written by Kim Da-rin, directed by Lee Kwang-young). On August 6, the production confirmed her casting in the lead role of Maeng Se-na.
Se-na is a top-tier defense attorney, nicknamed "lawyer of the villains" for handling criminal cases that most others avoid. She's sharp, assertive, and driven.
💘 A lawyer by day, a fangirl at heart
Behind her steely exterior, Se-na harbors a big secret—she's a die-hard fan of the band Gold Boys, and especially of its member Do Ra-ik, whom she's stanned for 10 years.
When Do Ra-ik is accused of a serious crime, she steps in to defend him, hiding her fangirl identity. But as the case unfolds, she's forced to confront an unexpected truth.
🗣️ Choi Soo-young shares excitement over unique role
Choi shared, "Maybe it's because of my time with Girls' Generation, but I couldn't put the script down once I started reading." She added, "It's my first time playing both a lawyer and a fangirl. The on-off duality of this character is fascinating. I'm excited to show a new side of myself."
🎤 Kim Jae-young joins as idol Do Ra-ik
Actor Kim Jae-young will take on the role of Do Ra-ik, a band frontman who becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. Unable to find joy on stage anymore, he sheds his idol image and embraces a new identity.
Kim commented, "The drama's genre-blending story is super intriguing. As a band vocalist, Do Ra-ik has so much to express—I'm really looking forward to it."
📺 'Idol I' premieres later in 2025 on ENA
Idol I is scheduled to air in the second half of 2025 via ENA.
