upcoming K-drama Polaris, a political spy romance series set to premiere on September 10, 2025.
On August 6, the production team released first-look stills of Jun's character Seo Moon-joo, revealing her elegant yet commanding presence—from addressing international conferences to running through dawn-lit streets with steely determination.
A Spy Romance Rooted in Diplomacy and Truth
Polaris follows Seo Moon-joo, a high-ranking South Korean diplomat who finds herself at the center of a national security crisis after a presidential candidate survives an assassination attempt.
Teaming up with a special agent named San-ho (played by Kang Dong-won), Seo embarks on a mission to uncover a dangerous conspiracy that could destabilize the entire Korean Peninsula.
Jun Ji-hyun: "Strong, Quiet, and Resilient"
Speaking about the role, Jun said:
"She's a quiet but strong character. I've always wanted to challenge myself with someone like her."
Known for her glamorous image, Jun's transformation into a deeply patriotic and disciplined diplomat shows a different side of her acting range.
In the storyline, Seo is portrayed as someone who, from childhood, studied with the South Korean flag pinned above her desk. After completing her education in the U.S., she becomes a diplomat representing Korea on the world stage.
Written for Jun from the Start
Acclaimed screenwriter Jung Seo-kyeong (The Handmaiden, Little Women) revealed that the role was created specifically with Jun in mind:
"From the beginning, Seo Moon-joo was always Jun Ji-hyun. I thought deeply about which of her colors to bring out for this role."
