From Sweet to Sinister: Yoon-ah's Most Energetic Performance Yet
Im Yoon-ah, known for her bright and cheerful roles in hits like Confidential Assignment (2017) and Exit (2019), dives into a complex dual character in the new film The Devil Is Coming. The movie premieres August 13, 2025, blending fantasy and comedy in a unique way.
By Day, Innocent Bakery Worker; By Night, a Mischievous Devil
Yoon-ah plays Seon-ji, a kind-hearted, modest bakery worker who mysteriously transforms into a devil every night at 2 a.m. The contrast between Seon-ji's gentle nature and the devil's chaotic energy demanded a wide acting range from Yoon-ah.
Transformation Through Makeup and Mannerisms
To distinguish the two personas, Yoon-ah used distinct makeup and styling—clean and fresh by day, flamboyant and exaggerated by night. She practiced intensively to master the devil's eerie laugh and unpredictable behavior, delivering a performance filled with nuance and humor.
"I Poured Every Bit of Energy I Had"
Yoon-ah shared, "This is the character I've invested the most energy into. I wanted to try everything an actor could." She emphasized focusing on conveying the true emotions behind both Seon-ji's love and the devil's desperate wish for ascension.
Chemistry and Dynamic Relationships
The film also explores the evolving relationships between Seon-ji, the devil, and Gil-gu (played by Ahn Bo-hyun). Ahn praised Yoon-ah's clear portrayal of both sides, saying her performance helped bring out his character's transformation from cynical to hopeful.
Director Lee Sang-geun's Genre-Blending Vision
Director Lee described The Devil Is Coming as a mix of thriller, romance, and comedy, inviting audiences to interpret it freely. Yoon-ah added, "It's a story full of human emotions and comedy, with the director's unique touch."
The Devil Is Coming opens in theaters on August 13, 2025.
