The K-animation blockbuster continues its strong run in Korea and abroad, drawing over 1 million local viewers.
Box Office Milestone for K-Animation
Animated feature King of Kings, directed by Jang Sung-ho, has officially surpassed 1 million admissions in South Korea. According to data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) on August 6, the film attracted 11,582 moviegoers that day, bringing its cumulative audience to 1,060,148.
This achievement places King of Kings as the third highest-grossing Korean animated film of all time—behind Leafie, A Hen into the Wild (2.22 million) and Secret Jouju: Love in Harmony (1.24 million).
Global Success Story
King of Kings is a homegrown K-animation that reimagines British author Charles Dickens embarking on a fantastical journey with his youngest son into a tale set 2,000 years ago. The film first premiered in North America in April 2025 and has since grossed approximately $60.3 million USD (about 83.5 billion KRW), according to Box Office Mojo.
Meanwhile, 'Zombie Daughter' Dominates Theaters
While King of Kings celebrates a major milestone, Zombie Daughter (directed by Pil Gam-seong) continues to dominate the domestic box office, holding the No.1 spot for eight consecutive days. F1: The Movie and Ballerina currently rank second and third, respectively.
