Korean cinema is gearing up for a fresh twist on the crime genre, as Yeom Jung-ah, Cha Joo-young, and Kim Hye-yoon take on the roles of a three-woman bank robber crew in the upcoming film Land (directed by Han Dong-wook).
According to industry insiders, the trio recently confirmed their casting as the leads and completed their first script reading on August 12. After finalizing details, filming is scheduled to begin within the year.
Crime Drama Set in a Fading Mining Town
Land tells the story of three women struggling to survive in a once-prosperous mining village now dominated by a casino. Their desperate lives take a sharp turn when they plan a bank robbery, only to become entangled in an unexpected chain of events.
Yeom Jung-ah will play Hwa-sook, the tough "big sister" figure standing at the end of her life's rope. Cha Joo-young takes on the role of Choon-ja, a woman obsessed with the casino scene. Both characters are portrayed as bold, loyal, and unafraid to take risks. Kim Hye-yoon will join them as Do-yeon, the youngest member of the trio and a bank employee who gets swept into the heist.
Female-Led Crime from a Proven Genre Specialist
The film will be helmed by Han Dong-wook, known for directing the Disney+ series The Worst of Evil. Production is led by Sanai Pictures, the studio behind numerous hit crime films, which now aims to expand its expertise into female-driven storytelling.
With its powerhouse cast, gritty setting, and high-stakes premise, Land is already building anticipation as one of the most compelling Korean crime films to watch for in the coming year.
