Cha Eun-woo (real name Lee Dong-min, 28) of K-pop group ASTRO has been selected as a Company Leader Trainee during his basic military training.
On August 13, the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do, released trainee photos on its official website, where Cha was spotted wearing the armband of a company leader — a position given to those recognized for outstanding leadership among fellow trainees. His sharp uniform, perfectly set beret, and still-striking visuals caught fans' attention.
A role earned through discipline and respect
The position of Company Leader Trainee is awarded based on a combination of responsibility, physical endurance, and the ability to lead commands. Evaluations also consider daily conduct, sincerity, and interpersonal skills.
Recent eyewitness accounts from the training center have drawn attention. One soldier wrote, "I saw Cha Eun-woo doing the dishes. He was working hard. Even with a shaved head, he was so handsome I had to look away." Another recounted, "People kept staring at him, so a drill instructor said, 'Do not stare. He's just a person.'"
ASTRO member Yoon San-ha also shared an update on August 4, saying, "He told me, 'Save me.' Even though he's physically strong, it seems challenging. But he's adjusting well."
Cha Eun-woo enlisted at the Nonsan Army Training Center on July 28 and is undergoing basic training before serving in the Army Band. His discharge is scheduled for January 27, 2027. During his military hiatus, his Netflix series The Wonderfuls and a new album release are planned.
