AtHeart, a rookie girl group with an average age of 16, has officially taken flight in the K-pop scene. With their debut EP "Plot Twist," the group aims to captivate global fans through youthful energy and a unique charm.
The group first showcased their potential in May with the pre-debut single "Good Girl," which drew attention for its polished performance uncommon for newcomers. Now, with their official debut, they're ready to leave a bold mark.
On August 13, AtHeart held their debut media showcase at Bluesquare SOL Travel Hall in Seoul, presenting "Plot Twist" to the press and fans alike.
A Name That Connects Hearts
The name AtHeart combines "At" (connection) and "Heart," symbolizing the group's goal to connect hearts and create a new world with fans. The project brought together top industry talent, including SM Entertainment's former board chairman Han Se-min, ex-SM casting director Kang Jung-ah, choreographer Lia Kim, and visual director Lee Kyum.
The group consists of multicultural members — Koreans Seohyun, Nahyun, Bom, and Arin; Michi from the U.S.; Kaitlyn from the Philippines; and Aurora from Japan. For now, they will promote as six members, as Bom explained that Aurora is taking a temporary break due to health reasons.
A Story Told Through Five Tracks
"Plot Twist" represents their first wingbeat toward the world, blending unpredictable emotions into each track. The EP includes five songs: the title track "Plot Twist," "Push Back," "Dot Dot Dot…," "New Me," and "Good Girl," each showcasing a different musical color.
The title track is a dance song combining pop and EDM with a dreamy mood, layered with the group's mysterious a cappella harmonies. During the showcase, AtHeart performed with a poise beyond their rookie status, moving with both smoothness and precision.
The choreography, led by Lia Kim, includes the "Nami Twist" — a standout pair move where Nahyun and Michi hold each other's heads, perfectly capturing the song's reversal concept.
A Butterfly Effect in the Making
Even before debut, AtHeart attracted strong interest. "Good Girl" has already surpassed 10 million views on YouTube. Seohyun expressed her ambition: "We want to let more people know about AtHeart and aim for No. 1 on music shows and charts."
Bom revealed the album's core message: "The keyword is 'butterfly effect' — a small wingbeat can cause a huge wave. We want to bring a new paradigm to K-pop."
The group also named Girls' Generation as their role model, recalling that member Sooyoung appeared in their music video teaser and offered valuable encouragement. Sooyoung even participated in their dance challenge, which left the members overjoyed — and in Nahyun's case, in tears.
Closing the showcase, Bom reflected: "We've finally taken our first step. It may be small, but we want to walk the right path and show our best selves."
