Actor Kim Nam-gil marked the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation with a meaningful tribute.
On August 14, Professor Seo Kyung-deok from Sungshin Women's University shared on social media, "In celebration of the 80th Liberation Anniversary, I collaborated with Kim Nam-gil to release a video introducing hidden historical sites in the city."
Guiding Through Hidden Historical Landmarks
Kim Nam-gil and Professor Seo guided viewers to notable independence movement sites, including Bukchon Village, guarded by architecture pioneer Jeong Se-gwon, the Dilkusha residence of Albert Taylor, and the Yun Dong-ju Memorial. The video revisits the spirit of independence activists who strived to preserve Korea's identity during Japanese occupation.
Professor Seo explained, "We wanted to showcase lesser-known independence movement sites and make history accessible." Kim Nam-gil added, "I hope people visit these historic sites in person to connect with our past."
Reflecting on the experience, Kim Nam-gil said, "I realized that the peaceful life we enjoy today was made possible by sacrifices made in unseen places. It was truly healing."
The video was first released in Korean, with an English version scheduled for release next week.
