[Exclusive] Actor Lee Ji-hoon Clarifies Domestic Violence Allegations: "It Was an Argument, Not Assault"
by. ymchoi

Actor Lee Ji-hoon (46) has addressed recent domestic violence reports, explaining it was a marital argument that escalated, but not a case of assault.

According to a close acquaintance who spoke to Dispatch on August 14, "There was a minor physical interaction during a verbal disagreement between the couple. Police arrived, but the scene was deemed not serious, and no assault took place."

Lee and his wife have since reconciled. "His spouse clearly stated there was no intention to press charges, so the case is now in the process of being closed," the acquaintance said, adding, "Both Lee Ji-hoon and his wife are reflecting on the incident."

Police Response and Case Status

On July 24, police were dispatched to Lee's apartment in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, after a report was filed. At the time, Lee and his wife were in the middle of an argument, and Lee was reportedly about to leave the residence.

The dispute escalated when his wife tried to stop him, leading to a brief struggle. Police investigated Lee on suspicion of assault, but confirmed that his wife did not wish to press charges.

Under Korean law, assault in such cases falls under a "crime subject to non-prosecution upon victim's objection," meaning charges cannot be pursued without the victim's consent. Police have categorized the matter as a domestic protection case.

If prosecutors decide not to indict, the case will end there. If the case is referred to court, it will proceed with closed hearings, potentially resulting in protective measures such as community service or a restraining order, or a dismissal.

Career Background

Lee Ji-hoon debuted in 2003 as part of KBS's 20th open talent recruitment. Known as a skilled scene-stealer, he has appeared in films including Chronicle of a Blood Merchant (2015), The Merciless (2017), I Can Speak (2017), Sweet and Warm: 7510 (2023), The Roundup: No Way Out (2023), and The Roundup: Punishment (2024).

His drama credits include Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang (2005), King of Baking, Kim Tak-goo (2010), The Queen of Office (2013), Hospital Playlist Season 2 (2021), The New Recruit 2 (2023), Goryeo-Khitan War (2023), and A Shop for Killers (2024).
