Actress Song Hye-kyo is marking Korea's 80th Liberation Day with a meaningful tribute.
On August 15, Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University revealed on social media, "To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, Song Hye-kyo and I teamed up to donate 10,000 copies of a guidebook introducing the Korean independence movement in Mexico."
The guidebook highlights key historical sites, including the Korean National Association's Mexico City branch building, the residences of independence activists Kim Ik-joo and Hwang Bo-young-joo, Dolores Cemetery, and Ahn Chang-ho's lodging in Guadalajara.
Professor Seo expressed concern over the poor preservation of overseas Korean independence heritage sites but emphasized, "Continued interest and visits from our people are the strongest force in preserving these historical landmarks." For those unable to visit in person, the guidebook is available for download on the "Our History Abroad" website.
Song Hye-kyo and Professor Seo have been promoting independence movement heritage for the past 14 years, donating Korean-language guidebooks, Hangul signboards, and materials on independence activists to 39 locations worldwide.
This year, marking the 80th Liberation Day, they continue their collaboration. In June, they donated 10,000 guidebooks to Saipan and Tinian Island. Their third project for 2025 is set to be unveiled in November.
