Korean film Zombie Daughter has officially crossed 4 million viewers, securing its spot as the highest-grossing movie of the year so far.
Rising as a Box Office Phenomenon
According to the Korean Film Council's official box office tally, Zombie Daughter drew over 290,000 moviegoers on August 15, pushing its cumulative audience to 4.04 million. Since its release on July 30, the film has dominated the box office for 17 consecutive days, establishing itself as the savior of Korea's summer movie season.
Compared to other recent hits, the film's speed is striking. It reached the 4 million milestone five days faster than Pilot (2024), which ended with 4.71 million viewers.
Plot with an Emotional Twist
Directed by Pil Gam-seong, Zombie Daughter begins with the outbreak of a zombie virus. The story follows a father's desperate fight to protect his daughter, who has turned into a zombie, blending survival horror with family drama. This emotional approach has resonated strongly with audiences, making it stand out in Korea's competitive box office.
Other Box Office Rankings
Hollywood title F1 The Movie starring Brad Pitt, directed by Joseph Kosinski, placed second on the same day with around 140,000 viewers nationwide. Korean horror-comedy The Devil Moved In by Lee Sang-geun came in third with 73,000 viewers, but despite the Liberation Day holiday boost, it failed to attract family audiences.
