Netflix series Squid Game has claimed six awards at a major U.S. pop culture ceremony, cementing its global influence.
The Gold Derby TV Awards announced winners on August 19 (KST), with Squid Game dominating key categories. The series won Best Drama Series, while Lee Jung-jae, who stars as Seong Gi-hun, took home Best Actor in a Drama.
Supporting awards also went to Kang Ae-sim (Jang Geum-ja, Best Supporting Actress), Choi Seung-hyun (Thanos, Best Supporting Actor), and Gong Yoo (Ddakji Man, Best Guest Appearance). The show additionally earned the Ensemble of the Year award.
The awards covered content released between 2024 and 2025. Squid Game achieved consecutive successes with Season 2 (December 2024) and Season 3 (June 2025).
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed gratitude, saying, "We sincerely thank everyone involved and the fans for giving such wonderful awards to Squid Game and the cast." He added, "Sometimes award predictions don't go as expected, which can be disappointing, but this recognition has more than made up for it. I'll follow Gold Derby even more closely from now on."
