The animated feature K-Pop Demon Hunters has officially become the most-watched movie in Netflix history, surpassing previous record holders and cementing its place as a global phenomenon.
Record-Breaking Success
Netflix announced that K-Pop Demon Hunters has accumulated 236 million views, overtaking Red Notice, which previously held the top spot with 230.9 million. The film achieved this milestone in its 10th week of release, pulling ahead by more than 5 million views.
In the overall Netflix rankings—including both films and series—the movie now stands at third place behind Squid Game (265.2 million) and Wednesday (252.1 million). With 22 days left in the platform's official 91-day viewership counting period, industry watchers speculate the film could climb even higher.
Global Cultural Impact
The movie blends K-pop and traditional exorcism themes into an action-fantasy narrative, offering a uniquely Korean perspective while showcasing the global appeal of K-pop culture. The character-driven storyline has been highlighted as another key factor in its success.
Soundtrack and Box Office Performance
The soundtrack has also become a worldwide hit. The song Golden topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Chart, marking a rare crossover achievement for an animated soundtrack.
In North America, the film dominated the box office as well. On August 23–24, more than 1,700 theaters hosted special sing-along screenings, generating over 280 billion KRW (approximately 205 million USD) in just two days.
This runaway success positions K-Pop Demon Hunters not only as a Netflix milestone but also as a cultural landmark in the global spread of K-pop.
