Actor Im Siwan is set to reveal a new side of himself as a contract killer in Netflix's upcoming film Mantis.
Global Release
Netflix confirmed on August 27 that Mantis will premiere worldwide on September 26. A teaser poster and trailer were also unveiled, offering the first glimpse into the dark and stylish action thriller.
Spin-off of Kill Boksoon
Mantis serves as a spin-off of Kill Boksoon, expanding the universe of the contract killing underworld. The screenplay was co-written by Kill Boksoon director Byun Sung-hyun, while Lee Tae-sung, a former assistant director, makes his directorial debut with the project.
Storyline and Characters
The film follows an intense power struggle among top-tier killers. Im Siwan plays Hanul, an elite assassin from MK Entertainment, the country's largest contract killing organization. Feared in the industry, he is known by the codename "Mantis."
Park Gyu-young portrays Jae-yi, Mantis's longtime friend and rival who harbors complicated emotions toward him, while Jo Woo-jin takes on the role of Dok-go, a retired hitman drawn back into the deadly competition. Together, the three face off for dominance in the assassin hierarchy.
Teaser Preview
The teaser opens with the voice of Sol Kyung-gu reprising his role as Cha Min-kyu, outlining the ruthless rules of the underworld. Fast-paced action scenes highlight the bloody rivalry between Mantis, Jae-yi, and Dok-go. One tense exchange features Park Gyu-young asking, "I'm not beneath you anymore, am I?" to which Im Siwan coldly replies, "So you wanted to kill me?"
