Actor Park Soo-young will return to the stage in a Korea-Japan collaborative theatrical production.
Reviving a Beloved Role
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan, Seoul's Arts Center and Japan's New National Theatre present Yakiniku Dragon: Yonggil's Gopchang Restaurant, written and directed by Jung Eui-shin. Set in 1970s Kansai, the play portrays a Korean-Japanese family running a gopchang (grilled intestines) restaurant, highlighting their resilience and hope amid hardships.
Park Soo-young reprises his role as Daesu, a resourceful and passionate character who pursues opportunities for profit yet harbors a sincere, unwavering love. He originally played Daesu in 2011 and returns after 14 years, promising to evoke both empathy and amusement. Director Jung praised Park's performance, noting his keen analytical skills and ability to bring each scene to life while making the character distinct.
