Production for the sequel to Netflix's animated hit K-Pop Demon Hunters is gaining momentum.
Sequel Discussions Underway
Variety reported that Sony and Netflix have started discussions to produce K-Pop Demon Hunters 2, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Kang expressed excitement about the project:
"We've prepared backstories for the characters. There are still many unanswered questions and unexplored areas."
Global Success of the Original
Released on June 20, the film became a cultural phenomenon beyond animation. Its limited theatrical release in North America topped the local box office. On Netflix, it became the most-watched film, with 236 million views recorded as of August 27.
The soundtrack also made waves, with four songs entering the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Top 10, marking a historic first for an OST. Charting tracks include Huntrix's "Golden", Lion Boys' "Your Idol" and "Soda Pop", and Huntrix's "How It's Done."
High Expectations for the Sequel
The film's popularity shows no signs of slowing. Some predict it could rival global animation hits like Frozen. Netflix plans to submit "Golden" for Best Original Song at the next Academy Awards, highlighting the franchise's worldwide impact.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the possibility of Lumi and Jinwoo reuniting, adding anticipation for K-Pop Demon Hunters 2.
