Director Kim Sung-soo has been appointed jury chair for this year's Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival, which returns after a four-year hiatus.
Jury Panel Announced
On September 2, the festival revealed its full jury lineup, naming Kim as chair. He previously served as jury chair and honorary executive committee member in past editions, and will once again contribute to discovering emerging filmmakers.
Joining him are directors Kim Sung-hoon, Byun Young-joo, Lee Jong-pil, Lim Sun-ae, Kang Hyoung-chul, Kim Han-gyeol, Lee Kyung-mi, Yoo Jae-sun, and Lee Chung-hyun. Together, they will evaluate works across five competitive categories, each inspired by iconic Korean films: drama (Take Care of My Cat), melodrama (Jealousy Is My Middle Name), comedy (Conduct Zero), horror (Epitaph), and action (No Blood No Tears).
Festival Background
Founded in 2002, the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is South Korea's only genre-specific short film festival and marks its 21st edition this year. The event paused after 2021 but is now making a comeback, continuing its tradition of spotlighting promising directors who have gone on to shape Korean cinema, including Kim Han-min (Roaring Currents), Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and Yoon Jong-bin (Nameless Gangster).
The 21st festival will be held from October 16 to 20 at CGV Yongsan in Seoul. Award winners will be announced at the closing ceremony.
