Black & White Chef 2 to Premiere in December with Baek Jong-won Returning as Judge

The hit culinary show Black & White Chef is returning for a second season this December, with Baek Jong-won set to reprise his role as judge.

Netflix announced its upcoming variety lineup on September 2, confirming that Black & White Chef: Culinary Class Wars Season 2 (hereafter Black & White Chef 2) will premiere in December. The program is a high-stakes cooking competition featuring 100 chefs, where underdog "Black Spoon" chefs challenge Korea's top "White Spoon" celebrity chefs.

Baek Jong-won and Chef Ahn Sung-jae will return as judges, continuing their roles from Season 1. Director Yoo Ki-hwan noted, "We carefully considered the impact on everyone involved. With 100 chefs and 300–400 staff participating, we plan to release the show as scheduled and let viewers make their judgments."

Baek Jong-won has previously faced controversies related to his company The Born Korea, including allegations of violating agricultural and food safety laws. There were also issues over ingredient sourcing, such as the use of imported soybeans in "Baek Jong-won's Baekseok Doenjang" and imported garlic in Han-Shin Pocha dishes. At past festivals, improper handling of food and equipment was documented.

Baek has issued multiple apologies and stated in May that he would pause broadcasting activities to focus solely on his business endeavors. Despite these past controversies, he is confirmed to participate in the new season of Black & White Chef.
