Director Na Hong-jin will serve as the first jury president of the newly established competition section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
On September 3, BIFF organizers announced the seven-member jury lineup: director Na Hong-jin (South Korea), actor Tony Leung (梁家輝, Hong Kong), actor/director Nandita Das (India), director Marziyeh Meshkini (Iran), filmmaker Kogonada (U.S.), producer Yulia Evina Bhara (Indonesia), and actress Han Hyo-joo (South Korea).
The jury will review 14 major Asian films, culminating in the inaugural Busan Awards.
Han Hyo-joo brings acting credibility with her wide-ranging performances in films like Masquerade (2012), The Beauty Inside (2015), and Love, Lies (2016).
Festival organizers emphasized that the jury will evaluate films based on artistic achievement, directorial vision, acting, and contributions to cinema, reflecting BIFF's focus on expanding the presence of Asian cinema.
Executive director Jung Han-seok noted:
"Considering it's the first competition section, we aimed to assemble a lineup with discernment, boldness, and global influence. Expanding from the usual five to seven jurors also allows for richer perspectives."
The Busan Awards will present honors in five categories: Grand Prize, Best Director, Jury Prize, Best Actor/Actress, and Artistic Contribution Award, with a total prize pool of ₩110 million (approx. $80,000 USD).
