Chun Woo Hee is ready to showcase her romantic side once again. At the press conference for JTBC's new drama My Youth held on September 4 in Seoul, the actress radiated confidence as she reunited with the genre that first won fans over in Be Melodramatic (2019).
A Reunion of First Loves
My Youth tells the story of Sung Jeyeon (Chun Woo Hee) and Sun Woohae (Song Joong Ki), who first met as teenagers and reconnect in their thirties. Chun's character dropped out of Seoul National University and now works as a talent manager, navigating both hardship and passion in life. Song plays a former child actor turned florist and writer, a man whose twenties were consumed by debt but who still carries charm and resilience.
Chun Woo Hee's First Traditional Romance
Though known for her versatility, Chun admitted this was her first time fully embracing the melodrama genre. "I realized I'm naturally suited for romance. Expressing subtle emotions was so fun—it made me wonder why I hadn't tried pure romance earlier," she said. She also studied the professional details of her role, noting she observed real managers to capture authenticity.
Song Joong Ki's Everyday Transformation
Song Joong Ki, who has often portrayed larger-than-life roles in A Werewolf Boy, Space Sweepers, and Vincenzo, explained his reason for joining. "I wanted to play a character grounded in reality. Through the role of a florist, I even learned flower arranging, which turned out to be healing," he shared.
Irresistible Chemistry On and Off Screen
The highlight of the event was the warm rapport between Chun and Song. The pair appeared hand-in-hand, instantly stirring excitement among fans. Chun praised Song's attentiveness: "He often asked for my opinions and respected them, which made my acting more detailed." Song responded with equal admiration: "Every rehearsal, I found myself drawn into her performance. She has incredible pull as an actor."
A Drama About Love and Memory
Director Lee Sang Yeob emphasized that My Youth offers more than romance. "It's touching, heartwarming, sometimes tearful, but always full of love. Viewers will find themselves revisiting their own first loves," he said. The drama also promises a nostalgic twist in Episode 2, showcasing the characters' younger days through child actors.
My Youth premieres September 5 at 8:50 p.m. KST on JTBC.
