BLACKPINK's Rosé has become the first K-pop artist to win "Song of the Year" at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Historic Win for K-pop
The 2025 MTV VMAs were held on September 8 (KST) at the UBS Arena in New York. Rosé took home the coveted "Song of the Year" trophy for her hit duet APT. with Bruno Mars. This marks the first time a K-pop artist has ever claimed the award. Previously, BTS's Dynamite had been nominated in 2021.
Rosé's Emotional Speech
In her acceptance speech, Rosé said, "I can't believe this. First, I want to thank Bruno Mars for believing in me and supporting me. This moment feels like a reward for all the hard work." She also shared gratitude with her close circle, adding, "Teddy oppa, I got the award. BLACKPINK members, I got the award. Thank you always, I love you."
Multiple Nominations for APT.
Rosé was nominated in seven categories this year, including "Song of the Year," "Video of the Year," and "Best Collaboration." The track also earned nods for "Best Pop," "Best K-pop," "Best Direction," "Best Art Direction," and "Best Visual Effects."
The Song Behind the Win
APT. is a lively duet between Rosé and Bruno Mars, inspired by the popular Korean drinking game "Apartment Game." With its addictive chorus and upbeat rhythm, the song has become a global favorite, further cementing Rosé's impact as a solo artist.
