K-pop star Rosé of Blackpink claimed two awards at the U.S. MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), while Blackpink was named Best Group.
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards took place on September 7 at the UBS Arena in New York. Rosé took home two trophies, marking a historic moment for K-pop.
Historic Win for Song of the Year
Rosé received the Song of the Year award for her duet with Bruno Mars, "APT.," becoming the first K-pop artist to earn this honor. She expressed, "I can't believe this. I'm so thankful to Bruno Mars, who believed in me from the start. I dedicate this trophy to the 16-year-old me who chased her dreams. It's so rewarding to see my efforts recognized."
Blackpink and Lisa Continue Winning Streak
Blackpink won Best Group for the second time, following their 2023 victory. Meanwhile, Lisa took home Best K-pop for "Born Again," securing the award for the second consecutive year. Lisa was absent from the ceremony but shared via video, "I'm truly honored. Thanks to Doja Cat and Rae for making this song special. None of this would be possible without our fans."
Other Highlights
Lady Gaga led the night with four wins, including Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration. Ariana Grande's "Brighter Days Ahead" was named Video of the Year. Emerging group Cats Eye earned PUSH Performance of the Year for "Touch," showcasing performances of "Nali" and "Gabriella" during the preshow. Cats Eye commented, "This feels completely new to us. After everything we've been through, this moment feels like a huge reward. We are deeply grateful."
Additionally, singers Lee Jae, Ray Ami, and Audrey Nune served as presenters for Best Album, lending their voices to the Netflix animation K-pop Demon Hunters.
