Director Park Chan-wook's upcoming film No Other Choice has surged to the top of Korea's box office pre-sale rankings, halting the runaway success of Demon Slayer.
Early Pre-Sale Dominance
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network, as of 4 p.m. on September 8, No Other Choice secured the No. 1 spot with a reservation rate of 29.7%. The film already tallied 110,787 pre-sold tickets—an exceptional feat 17 days ahead of release.
By comparison, blockbusters like Seoul Spring and The Roundup 4 only hit the top spot 10 days before release, highlighting the film's unusually strong early momentum.
Impact on 'Demon Slayer'
The success comes at the expense of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc, which has dominated Korean theaters in recent weeks. With the rise of No Other Choice, its pre-sale numbers have sharply declined.
Plot and Festival Circuit
No Other Choice follows an office worker who is suddenly fired and forced into his own desperate battle to protect his family and hard-earned home.
The film recently competed at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, where critics predicted a Golden Lion win, though it ultimately missed out. It will continue its festival run at Toronto and New York before opening the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
No Other Choice is set for nationwide release on September 24.
