Musical actress Ok Joo-hyun has issued an apology following controversy over operating an entertainment agency without proper registration.
On September 9, her company TOI Entertainment released a statement via social media: "It is true that we failed to register under the Act on the Development of the Public Culture and Arts Industry. However, it was neither intentional nor an attempt to operate illegally."
The company explained that it had completed the required online training during its early stages but later failed to finalize the administrative process. "We are currently identifying the cause and will immediately proceed with the necessary registration. This incident will serve as a lesson to ensure stricter compliance with administrative procedures," the statement added.
TOI Entertainment was founded by Ok Joo-hyun and became embroiled in controversy when it was revealed to be unregistered. Her other company, Title Role Inc., which she established in 2022, was also found to be in the same situation.
According to Article 26 of the Act on the Development of the Public Culture and Arts Industry, any entity conducting management activities for entertainers must be registered as an official agency. Violations can result in up to two years of imprisonment or fines of up to 20 million KRW, and all business activities conducted without registration may be deemed unlawful and subject to suspension.
