Actor So Ji-sub is set to take on a powerful new role that blends fatherly devotion with noir-style action.
SBS confirmed on September 11 that its new Friday-Saturday drama Mr. Kim will premiere in 2026, with casting for the lead roles finalized.
A Father with a Dangerous Secret
Based on a popular webtoon, Mr. Kim tells the story of an ordinary man who risks everything to save his daughter, revealing a shocking past in the process. The drama is a spin-off set in the shared universe of Lookism, How to Fight, and Manager Kim. The script is penned by Nam Dae-jung, known for films The Great Wish and Love Reset (30 Days), with direction by Lee Seung-young (Tracer, Wonderful World).
So Ji-sub plays Kim Bu-jang, a seemingly humble employee at a small savings bank and devoted father to his daughter Min-ji. But beneath his ordinary exterior lies his true identity: a former South-North covert operative and North Korea's most wanted fugitive. His character will balance tender fatherhood with explosive action sequences.
A Blockbuster in the Making
The production team commented, "With a solid original story and So Ji-sub's immersive performance, Mr. Kim will deliver a blockbuster drama that combines emotional depth and thrilling action. We look forward to his standout role."
Mr. Kim is slated to bring both heart and intensity to screens when it airs in 2026.
