The legal dispute between NewJeans and ADOR has reached a deadlock, with both sides failing to reach a settlement in their second mediation session. The case now moves toward a final court ruling next month.
On September 11, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 41 held the second mediation hearing for ADOR's lawsuit seeking confirmation of the validity of its exclusive contract with NewJeans. The session, conducted privately, lasted just 18 minutes, with only attorneys present. Former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin did not attend, despite earlier speculation, while members Minji and Danielle were present at the first session.
Contract Dispute Timeline
NewJeans declared their separation from ADOR on November 28, 2024, rebranding themselves as NJZ and beginning independent activities, including a concert in Hong Kong this past March. ADOR responded by filing a lawsuit in December to confirm the validity of their exclusive contracts and also sought an injunction to block the group's solo activities.
In March, the court sided with ADOR on the injunction, ruling that "NewJeans cannot engage in activities without ADOR's prior approval and consent." NewJeans appealed, but the court upheld its decision, rejecting further objections.
Next Steps
Despite two rounds of court-led mediation, no agreement was reached. With settlement efforts now exhausted, the case will conclude with the court's ruling on October 30.
The outcome will determine the future of NewJeans' contractual ties with ADOR, marking a decisive moment in one of K-pop's most closely watched legal battles.
