Son Seok-gu and Eita to Lead Korean-Japanese Acting Showdown in Netflix Series Road
by. ymchoi

Actors Son Seok-gu and Japanese star Nagayama Eita will join forces in director Han Jun-hee's upcoming Netflix series Road (working title). The casting lineup, officially confirmed on September 12, also includes Kim Shin-rok, Choi Sung-eun, and Jung Jae-young.

A Cross-Border Crime Thriller

Based on the manga Blue Road, the series follows two detectives chasing a string of gruesome murders marked by twisted corpses and cryptic messages that cross national borders.

The mystery begins in Tokyo, where a contorted body is found with a chilling message scrawled in Korean blood-red letters—sending shockwaves through Japan. Soon after, a similar case emerges in Korea, this time with Japanese writing at the scene. To solve the case, Korean and Japanese detectives must join forces in a tense joint investigation.

Star-Studded Cast and Direction

Director Han Jun-hee, known for Netflix's D.P. and the film Coin Locker Girl, brings his signature gritty style to the project. He collaborated with writer Jo Yoo-jin (Pilot) to adapt the original work into a new direction, emphasizing genre intensity and transnational storytelling.

Han explained, "Road is a detective story that relentlessly follows two officers giving their all to track down the killer, set against the backdrop of a cross-border narrative."

  • Son Seok-gu takes the role of the Korean detective, delivering a performance filled with intensity.
  • Nagayama Eita stars as the Japanese detective, facing off in an uncompromising acting duel with Son.
  • Kim Shin-rok plays a Korean-Japanese businesswoman who aids in solving the mystery.
  • Choi Sung-eun transforms into a government agent with her own perspective on the case.
  • Jung Jae-young adds suspense as a mysterious, unidentified man central to the story's tension.

Anticipation for a Unique Collaboration

With its blend of Korean and Japanese talent and a gripping premise, Road is poised to deliver a high-stakes thriller that pushes the boundaries of cross-national storytelling. This marks a rare collaboration highlighting both countries' acting powerhouses on the global Netflix stage.
