by. ymchoi

Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film Face has taken the top spot at the box office on its opening day.

According to the Korean Film Council's official tally, Face drew 35,019 moviegoers on September 11, debuting at No. 1. The mystery thriller ended the 21-day dominance of Japanese hit Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc (directed by Haruo Sotozaki), which slipped to second place with 33,827 viewers.

Strong Audience Reception

The film is earning high marks from audiences, recording a 93% CGV Golden Egg Index and an 8.4 rating from verified Naver reviewers. Early reactions highlight both its tension-filled story and strong performances.

A Mystery Thriller with Dual Roles

Face follows a blind seal engraver and his son as they uncover the truth behind the mother's death, buried for 40 years. Actor Park Jung-min takes on a dual role as both father Im Young-gyu and son Im Dong-hwan, showcasing his range. The cast also includes Kwon Hae-hyo and Shin Hyun-bin.

Box Office Standings

While Face leads, Demon Slayer now holds second place, and Murderer's Report ranked third with 13,595 admissions.

With its strong debut and positive word-of-mouth, Face is poised to continue its momentum as one of Korea's most talked-about mystery thrillers of the season.
