Detective Ma Seok-do, played by Ma Dong-seok, is gearing up for another round of action — this time starting with overseas buyers.
Pre-Sales Kick Off at ACFM
According to Screen Daily on September 10 (KST), the production team of The Roundup 5 will participate in the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), launching its first wave of international pre-sales. ACFM, Asia's largest content business marketplace, will be held in Haeundae, Busan, alongside the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
At the event, the team will introduce the upcoming installment of The Roundup franchise and hold negotiations with buyers ahead of release.
Plot Details Still Under Wraps
Specifics about the fifth film remain tightly concealed. For now, only Ma Dong-seok's return as the iconic "beast cop" Ma Seok-do has been confirmed. Casting and production team details are yet to be finalized. Industry insiders reported that The Roundup 5 is slated to begin filming in the first half of 2026, with a target release year of 2027.
A Record-Breaking Franchise
Since its debut in 2017, The Roundup series has grown into Korea's leading action franchise. The films follow a relentless violent crimes detective facing off against powerful criminals with unflinching force. With three consecutive films surpassing 10 million admissions, the series made history as the first Korean film franchise to surpass a cumulative 40 million moviegoers.
Expectations are high for Ma Seok-do's next showdown against an even more formidable villain as The Roundup 5 heads into global markets.
