Rookie boy group IDID has officially made their debut, bringing fresh passion and confidence to the K-pop scene.
A Fresh Start for Starship's New Boy Group
On September 15, IDID held their debut media showcase at Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul, unveiling their first mini album I did it.. The group, whose name is short for "I Did It," embodies youthful determination and the spirit of overcoming limits.
Composed of seven members—Jang Yonghun, Kim Minjae, Park Wonbin, Chu Yuchan, Park Sunghyun, Baek Junhyuk, and Jung Semin—the group was formed through Starship Entertainment's in-house survival project Debut's Plan. With an average age of 18, they aim to capture global fans with raw energy and unpolished charm.
Identity and Concept: The Penguin Spirit
IDID has adopted the penguin as their group identity, symbolizing courage and unity. "Like the first penguin to dive into unknown waters, we want to lead with fearless challenges," explained Chu Yuchan. "And like emperor penguins, we stick together as one."
Senior artists also shared encouragement. CRAVITY advised them not to fear the stage, while IVE's Rei offered tips on gestures and stage manners. The members expressed hopes of one day following in their seniors' footsteps to world tours and global festivals.
Debut Album I did it.
The album carries eight tracks, including the title Shining My Own Way, along with Slow Tide, Step It Up, I'm Perfect, Crazy for You, Sticky Bomb, Moment of Dreams, and Blooming Crown. Each track reflects emotions from survival shows to pre-debut experiences, all tied by the theme of "imperfect but authentic."
The title track combines acoustic guitar with rhythmic drums, showcasing IDID's bright vocals. "The lyrics 'Even if I fall or get hurt, that's still me' describe us best," said Jung Semin.
First Steps with Passion
At the showcase, the group performed their title track, displaying relaxed stage presence despite being rookies. Their point choreography—spreading arms freely during the chorus—emphasizes freedom and individuality.
"We hope our songs bring comfort and new strength to listeners," Baek Junhyuk shared. Kim Minjae added, "We'll repay the support we receive a hundred, a thousand times over on stage."
Looking Ahead
The members dream big, citing global acts like Coldplay and Bruno Mars as inspirations. "We want to grow into artists who represent this era and take our music overseas," said Jang Yonghun.
