Actress Han Ji-eun has responded to criticism over alleged mistreatment of her pet lizard.
Agency's Statement on Pet Care
On September 15, Gram Entertainment told Dispatch that Han Ji-eun's crested gecko, Moni, is "living healthily without any issues." The agency added, "Han Ji-eun regularly checks and observes Moni's condition. She will continue to be more attentive. We thank everyone for their concern and interest."
Criticism After TV Appearance
The controversy began after Han Ji-eun appeared on MBC's The Manager on September 14, where she introduced Moni to viewers and expressed affection for the reptile. However, shortly after the broadcast, some viewers claimed the lizard looked unwell, suggesting it was "near death" and pointing to what they saw as careless pet-keeping habits.
Her social media also drew heated responses. Comments included, "You should have learned more about raising reptiles beforehand," and "It looks pitiful and unsafe."
Mixed Public Reactions
While many criticized her lack of preparation, others defended the actress, noting that mistakes can happen for first-time reptile owners. Han Ji-eun's agency promptly responded, assuring that Moni's health is stable and promising closer care going forward.
