Director Na Hong-jin's new film Hope has released a teaser poster unlike any other—captured directly from a real frame of the movie.
The image freezes a split-second of raw intensity: a rider on a galloping horse clutching the neck of a young man as he flees from an alien threat. Unlike staged promotional stills, the poster reflects the film's uncompromising realism.
Filmed in Untamed Wilderness
The scene was shot in Romania's Retezat National Park. Every element—actors, horses, wires, and cameras—had to align with flawless precision. To achieve this, the cast and crew trained for five months in Korea, conducted three months of pre-shoot testing, and underwent two months of adaptation on location.
Cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo maximized natural light in the forest environment, filming at 120 frames per second to capture lifelike motion. Despite the difficulty, the team completed the cut within half a day, thanks to rigorous preparation and unity.
Global Ensemble Cast
Hope has drawn attention for its powerful international lineup. Hwang Jung-min plays Bum-seok, the authoritative yet duty-driven head of the Hopo Port branch office. Jo In-sung takes on Seong-gi, a village youth living off hunting and fishing. Jung Ho-yeon portrays Seong-ae, a steadfast police officer at Hopo Port.
Adding to the cast are Hollywood stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton, who portray alien beings.
Survival Story at the Border
The film follows Bum-seok as he hears reports of a tiger sighting from local youths near the Demilitarized Zone. What begins as a rural scare escalates into an encounter with an unthinkable reality, pushing the village into chaos.
Currently in post-production, Hope is slated for release in theaters next summer.
