SEVENTEEN's Hoshi marked his military enlistment with a meaningful act of kindness. On September 16, he donated 100 million KRW (approx. $72,000 USD) to support education for students in Zambia.
According to the Gyeonggi Northern branch of Community Chest of Korea, the funds will be used to construct and remodel classrooms at Mansansa Public School in Ndola, Zambia, which currently serves around 350 students but had only two classrooms in use. Hoshi, alongside his parents, contributed to the building of two new blocks with five classrooms in total.
This is not his first donation. Last year, he also gave 100 million KRW to the same foundation, helping improve facilities at Luang Prabang Goa School in Laos. His consistent philanthropy has earned him recognition as one of SEVENTEEN's "donation angels."
Hoshi expressed his hope for the children's future, saying, "I wanted to give strength and encouragement to growing students. I hope they can dream freely and grow in their new classrooms."
The idol joined the Honor Society, a group of major donors who have contributed over 100 million KRW, in 2021. His group SEVENTEEN has also been active in global philanthropy, becoming the first K-pop artists to serve as UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassadors and raising a $1 million fund to support young people worldwide.
Meanwhile, Hoshi officially entered the military training camp on the same day. He is the fourth SEVENTEEN member to begin service, following Jeonghan, Wonwoo, and Woozi. His discharge is scheduled for March 15, 2027.
